Cherryl Scott

Cherryl Scott is a born & bred Essex girl, living & loving in her home town of Southend on sea. Trained hair-stylist & Eye of Mordor Mummy to 5 kids, Cherryl always found time to indulge in her one true passion.....Poetry! She wrote & performed her first poem 'Nannies Surprise!' @ the age of ten to impress a cute 12 year old boy she met on a family holiday, it made him laugh & was an early indication of her sometimes dark humour!

She went on to have two poems published, 'Sobriety' in 1997 & 'War' in 1998 then recording 'The Innocent One.' on the '23 Poets' CD album which saw her working with a collaboration of poets from London. She was one of the first open mikes to perform @ the launch of 'Sundown multimedia' way back in 2004 thanks mainly to the double Southern Comfort & cokes she was drinking on the night! This was also the year that she joined the Sundown team eventually becoming one of the producers & 'Compare
Extraordinaire' for this creative night which she is still very much involved in!

Cherryl turned her attention to making good causes in 2005 when she independently organized 'Poets for Peace' a charity event to raise money for The Dove Project,a branch of Southend Womens Aid that looks after victims of domestic violence.

She continues to write & perform her poetry,hitting the the Poetry Tent @ The Latitude Festival 2007 & performing @The Battersea Arts Centre, London, with Stuart Bowditch in their collaboration on the song 'Essex Geezer' as 'DJ Innit & Cherry L!'.

Constantly creating new material she seeks to raise more awareness for the Arts, a mission that is very much close to her heart! Cherryl can be found performing poetry on the local scene where she has been known to hush the rowdiest of crowds with her captivating & entertaining performance! London beckons for this fresh & vibrant writer & she is currently working on a collection of poetry to be published in 2008!

Cherryl Scott packs a suitcase of delights in the mind, she enables the reader or audience to go with her into her creative world, dishing out the Poetry Passports along the way......We hope you have a pleasant flight!

The Pregnant Song

We used to go out drinking & dancing till we dropped,
but then we got me pregnant & all that kind of stopped!
We used to make love freely & have sex until we popped!
but when I got a belly,all that kind of stopped.
We used to spend our money,we always had a lot,
but the baby needed dummies & all that kind of stopped.
We used to share the time in our hearts forever locked,
but the baby started crying & all that kind of stopped.
We had a map for our lives & then the map got lost;
I think the baby sat on it...........
