Visionary Tongue 10/16/2011

Long established poetry publication Visionary Tongue has published a poem by Stuart Bowditch called 'Everyone's a Photographer'. They've also written a great review of Words from the Street. So head on over to their site to get your copy now.

Review -
This is Stuart’s long awaited second collection of poetry (see Stuart’s poem on page 41 of this issue for an example of his work), charting a truly remarkable body of work from 1999-2010, packaged within a really interesting design feature, a folded a1 piece of paper! So, what you find is you need to open the collection like an ordnance survey map, and also helpfully discover that this includes a map of Southend-on-Sea complete with locations which inspired a number of the poems within!

If that wasn’t enough however, you then reach the words within; in every instance; Stuart deftly draws out the keenest observations from often seemingly mundane issues, and transmutes them by some secret alchemy into something simply outstanding. Not afraid to subtly laugh at his own condition, Stuart considerable humanity, humility and wit just oozes from each poem managing somehow to hit a chord with the reader that is not soon forgotten. Stuart’s words from the street resound, and never leave the ear of the listener.

We're very happy to announce that the next two publications on Estuarine Press are in production. Firstly will be a collection of illustrated poetry by Cherry Scott called 'Pick and Mix'. A notorious character on the Southend Poetry scene Cherry has both captivated and disgusted audiences with her unique and varied repertoire, to much acclaim.

Following that will be a new collection of poetry by Stuart Bowditch called 'British Aisles'. This small collection features poems inspired by shops and shopping and will be printed in a rather interesting format, much like his last book. You can get a sneak preview of this body of work at the forthcoming Artside exhibition in Southend from 1st July, where an electronic version of some of the poems will be on display in Buzz Box phone shop in the Victoria shopping centre.

Just incase you were wondering what the 'Safety Helmets...' book looked like, here below are some pictures of the cover and a couple of the inner pages. You can now order your Print-on-Demand copy from Blurb. We have to say that the show organised by artistsmeet.org was a really great one and indicative of the amount of talent that the MEET participants possess. Madelaine has also excelled in producing the wonderful accompanying book that we are proud to have now published.
